Butte Creek HAB Balloon Launch

You are invited to witness an exciting and unique experience! Butte Creek is launching a high-altitude balloon on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at 12:00 pm. Our middle school HAB design team has designed and built a ‘payload’ that will film its ascent up to 9,000 to 20,000 feet. The payload will be housing ingredients which we hope will become ‘space cream’ (ice cream), and in another container it will hold an insect (to see if it survives). The balloon will be launched out back in the field and we would love to see you there! Please feel free to join us for the full launch beginning a few minutes before noon and finishing at about 12:15.

This launch is a practice run for Silverton High School’s HAB Balloon launch which will happen on the day of the Great American Eclipse on Monday, August 21st, 2017. For more information on the SHS project, see Statesman Journal, “Silverton students join NASA project for eclipse study.”
